“So here’s the deal. Let’s have a tea party before the winter break!” said Cecilia.

It was two days after their unexpected encounter with Elza. Cecilia was in the lounge with the whole gang, which included even Eins, Zwei, Mordred, and Grace this time.

Huey eyed the cheery Cecilia suspiciously.

“And why are we doing this now?”

“Um, because I just got this care package from my mom!”

She stepped to the side, revealing a pile of wooden boxes. They were stacked up to Cecilia’s height in two rows.

“Whoa. You could open a store,” said Jade in astonishment.

“My mom went a bit overboard when I wrote to her that I wouldn’t be coming home for the winter break. There are cakes and snacks that don’t keep very well, so I’d appreciate your help getting through them!”

Lucinda Sylvie’s boundless love for her daughter had manifested in physical form as a bounty of food. There were fresh desserts, bucketloads of tea leaves, chocolates from a patisserie Cecilia liked, and a mountain of Becky’s scones. Gilbert wasn’t planning on going home either, so it was meant for both of them, but there was no way two people could eat so much before it went bad.

“Does your mom not know that the canteen’s still open over the break? And that you can cook at the dorm, too?”

“She’s plenty aware, but she worries about me having enough to eat anyway…”

That’s why she had them stay at the family residence during the summer break, but of course Jade couldn’t know that.

Cecilia pressed her palms together imploringly.

“Anyway, this is how things are! Please help me eat this delicious food, or most of it will go to waste!”

“I can help with that,” offered Eins.

“Would be a shame to throw it away,” agreed Huey.

“Wow, that’s quite a selection!”

“There are even smoked meats! Is this wild boar? And venison?”

Jade and Zwei were already checking the contents of the boxes.

“Yup. My dad’s gotten into hunting recently.”

“Smoked meats? Score! You guys wait here, and I’ll be right back with something that goes reeeally well with charcuterie!” Dante got up and headed out of the lounge.

“Don’t bring anything bizarre!” Gilbert called after him.

“Sure, sure!” Dante replied without paying him much attention.

Lean and Oscar went over to take a look inside the boxes too.

“I just can’t believe how much food your mom sent you…”

“This is more than all of us can finish in a day…or two…”

“If there’s anything you want, you’re welcome to take some home!”

“Is it okay if I take some food to the orphanage?”

“Yeah, sure! I can even help you with that!”

“I’m willing to help, too,” volunteered Oscar.

“And me!” Jade raised his hand.

“You can count me in as well,” Zwei said with a shy smile.

The other guys were also willing to help out with delivering some of the food to the orphanage.

“I’d like to know why you invited us, too?” Mordred’s calm voice cut through the din of the excited voices in the lounge.

Grace nodded as if to say she was wondering about that as well. The two stood out in the group of students.
